WHAT IS YOUR PREFERENCE?
Every Supernova E3 Pro light is available with two distinct beam patterns because the illumination characteristics of a light are much more important than its mere brightness. A too narrow or inhomogeneous beam might be brighter in a single spot than a wider, smoother beam, but it will not allow you to perceive your surroundings as well. All Supernova Lights come with a smooth beam with enough scattered light on the sides.
Illumination patterns are a matter of individual taste. Therefore, we will give you recommendations but ask you to bear in mind that you should choose the beam pattern you personally like best.
"THE FAIR TALE OF THE LUX"
The oft-quoted lux-values are spot measurements of the brightness,
in general measured at a distance of 10 m (33 ft.). Measured in this
manner, a laser pointer would have a ridiculously high lux value, while
being totally useless for cycling. Our widely spread beam does not
boast record brightness in one spot but rather illuminates a larger
surface with even brightness.
The lumen value given by Supernova for every light is a measure for
the overall light quantity emitted and can be used together with the
beam shot to reach an easy decision.
GLARE-FREE LENS
The optical properties of the lens complies to the German road traffic standard. However, because the E3 PRO runs with 0.4 Watt more than allowed, the approval has not been given yet.
E3 PRO with glare-free lens
The E3 PRO with glare free lens provides you with a very wide, homogeneous carpet of light on the ground, even at low speeds. The light appears to be very bright because most of it is thrown towards the ground. The beam also reaches far enough for fast riding. Road signs are illuminated well.
We recommend this lens for:
• city traffic
• travel biking
• 24 hr MTB solo racing
• road bike training
SYMMETRICAL LENS
E3 PRO with symmetrical lens
The E3 with symmetrical lens has a narrowly focussed beam center giving you a great, far reaching high beam. Ideal for fast riders and speeds between 15-60 mph. Very good illumination of road signs.
We recommend this lens for:
• travel biking
• road bike / cyclocross training
• 24 hr road bike racing
